ic! berlin x Mercedes-Benz Capsule Collection

Two German design icons sought and found each other: Berlin-based eyewear manufacturer ic! berlin and Mercedes-Benz are launching an exclusive capsule collection. Designers of both brands jointly developed a design language that goes far beyond a pure label cooperation and combines the essential expressive features of both worlds. The result is five exclusive sunglasses designs that are based on the Mercedes-Benz series Style, Classic and AMG and are all crafted in the ic! berlin manufactory.
“With our new Capsule Collection, we want to show that something very special can arise in the eyewear segment when two design-savvy brands as ic! berlin and Mercedes-Benz team up”, explains Harry Skinner, Lead Designer ic! berlin.
The highlight of the collection is the “MB Shield”, a futuristic blue mono-lens shape, which is based on the Mercedes-Benz style ethos of intelligent and progressive design. With its striking metal frame that protrudes through the lens and the reduced use of materials, the “MB Shield” creates a sensual clarity – for maximum effect using minimal materials.
The Mercedes-Benz Classic line consists of three models. In the more masculine forms of the MB 01 and MB 03 with angular glasses, the slim lines of the double bridge are inspired by automotive design. The feminine MB 02 interprets the classic pilot shape with rounder glasses and a very slightly curved bridge. All three models have a new combination of rubber and metal temples and are embossed with the Mercedes-Benz star. MB 01, MB 02 and MB 03 are available in the colours Chrome, Graphite and Black.
“The collection proves how our design philosophy of “sensual clarity” can be applied in different styles – from classic to elegant and from basic to sporty”, says Martin Bremer, Head of Creation Corporate Design at Mercedes-Benz.
The AMG 01 sunglasses are a must-have for car enthusiasts. The sporty shape of the lenses and colour accents in white or red branded with the AMG logo are visible references to the connection to the Mercedes-AMG family. The unique ribbed design of the bridge also picks up on the lamella optics of the radiator grille. Like the other models, the AMG 01 is also equipped with ZEISS driving-optimized lenses and is available in the colours Raceline-Gray, Raceline-Black and Raceline-Charcoal.
